Rules and Guidance

The CREATIVE FUTURE art competition (hereafter ‘competition’) is organised by Wirral Autistic Society (hereafter ‘the organisers’) and is open to people (hereafter ‘artists’) of all ages who have been formally recognised as having an Autistic Spectrum Condition or Asperger’s Syndrome.

The competition opens at 12:00 BST on 31st May 2015 and closes at midnight at midnight of Friday 21st August 2015.

Only entries received during this time are eligible. Entries that do not adhere to the rules described here, or with an incomplete entry form, or received outside of these dates and times will be ineligible and will not be considered in the first stage judging on 30th August 2015.


First stage judging will take place on 28th August 2015 and will be based on the digital photographs and digital animations submitted.

In the initial judging, the judges will select entries in each category as finalists (hereafter ‘finalists’). The decision of the judges will be final. Categories will be divided into age groups of Under 11; 11 to 15; 16 to 18 and Over 18.

Finalists will be notified that they are on the finalist’s shortlist by 4th September 2015 and will be invited to send their original piece of art (hereafter ‘original’) to the judges for final judging, excluding the Digital Animation categories where the YouTube/Vimeo link has already been submitted and received.

A brief description of no more than 50 words that describes the entry is also required for ALL categories.

Originals must arrive at Wirral Centre for Autism, 6 Tebay Road, Bromborough, Wirral, CH62 3PA by 5pm BST on 17th September 2015 to be included in the exhibition.

Finalists’ originals received after this date will not be considered in the final judging that takes place at the Exhibition on 1st October 2015.

Type of Entry

Entries to the competition must be identified in one of the five categories – 2D, 3D, Digital Photography or Digital Animation – on the entry form.

Each entry can only be entered into one category and must be accompanied by a fully completed entry form.

Artists’ original work in the 2D category must not exceed 90cm x 90cm in size and must not project off the surface more than 2.5cm.

Artists’ original work in the 3D category must not exceed 1m x 1m x 1m and 10Kg in weight.

Artists’ original work in the Digital Photography category must not exceed a file size of 5MB.

Artists’ original work in the Digital Animation category must have a maximum duration of 2 minutes.

Entries in the 2D, 3D, and Digital Photography categories must be submitted to and comprise of a completed entry form together with a digital photograph of the artists’ original work, as appropriate.

Digital photographs must be in high resolution and in .jpg format and must not exceed 5MB in size. No other file types will be accepted. No original pieces of art will be accepted in the initial judging.

Entries to the Digital Animation category must be submitted to and comprise of a completed entry form together with a link to the animation on YouTube or Vimeo.

Final Judging & winners

Final judging will take place on 1st October 2015. The judges will assess all of the finalists’ originals and will select one Winner and one Highly Commended in each category. The winners will be announced at the CREATIVE FUTURE exhibition at Old Trafford Football Ground in Manchester.

All finalists’ will be invited to bring a maximum of one guest to accompany them to the exhibition on 1st October 2015. Please note: Invitation is for the exhibition only and not for the Conference which is in a separate room.

There will be two prizes each given in the 2D, 3D, Digital Photography and Digital Animation categories – a prize for the Winner and a prize for Highly Commended. If winners are not able to attend the exhibition then they will be informed of their achievement by email or telephone by 6th October 2015. Their prize will be posted to them when their original artwork is returned. All original artwork will be returned by post by 15th October 2015.

The organisers will arrange and incur the cost of displaying the originals and shipping the originals to the venue and for their safe return to the artists at the address provided on the entry form. There will be no cash or other alternative to the prizes offered and prizes are not transferable. The organisers reserve the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value at any time.

Finalists’ may be broadcast and/or published in all media, adapted, in whole or in part, including but not limited to press, broadcast tv and radio and/or publication on the websites and at the organisers’ sole discretion. Finalists’ may be required to participate in publicity including, without limitation media interviews and photographs. In the event of any dispute regarding the Rules, conduct, results and all other matters relating to the competition, the decision of the organisers shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into.
